BIS Background Screening 101
Program Overview:
Background screening is a critical component of effective and compliant hiring practices—but knowing what to use, when to use it, and how to stay compliant can be complex.
This session provides HR professionals with a practical, real-world framework for building risk-based background screening programs. Participants will gain clarity on the types of background checks available, the differences between fingerprinting and name-based searches, and how to align screening practices with specific roles, industries, and regulatory requirements.
From DOT vs. Non-DOT roles to positions involving cash handling, access to keys, or vulnerable populations, this session will help you make informed, defensible decisions that protect your organization and ensure fair, consistent hiring practices.

Christine Montierth is a National Account Executive at Background Information Services (BIS) with nine years of experience in the background screening industry. Her career reflects both depth and versatility, with experience spanning verifications, account management, and operational leadership.
Christine began her career in employment and education verifications, building a strong foundation in compliance and data accuracy. She later transitioned into Account Management, where she partnered with organizations to optimize screening programs and ensure alignment with regulatory and business needs.
After earning her degree in Business Management, Christine returned to BIS to lead ChemScreen, the company’s drug screening division. In this role, she oversaw program implementation, vendor partnerships, and occupational health coordination—bringing together compliance, operations, and client strategy.
Today, Christine leverages her operational expertise and strategic insight to help organizations build compliant, scalable screening programs. Known for her consultative approach, she works with HR leaders across industries to design solutions aligned with risk level, budget, and regulatory requirements.
